At Home With... Georgia Bellas
Four questions about home with writer, artist, literary wonder, friend and contributor Georgia Bellas...

Where is home for you?
Home is my big family gathering for every birthday and holiday and ordering Family Pizza and drinking a lot of wine. Home is watching Lifetime movies on a Saturday night with my mom. Home is playing house with my three-year-old niece. Home is riding my bike, streamers flying. Home is a road trip with my sissypants. Home is speaking Greek with my dad and listening to him sing old songs. Home is my three sisters and I always lining up in birth order for photos. Home is Mr. Bear. Home used to be splitting a PBR at last call with my best bud and is now her voice on the phone overseas. Home is playing ping-pong and growing a garden and making a life of art and love in Racine, WI, with the love of my life. Home is the clothesline in our yard.
Sunday morning. You have the whole day to yourself. What do you do?
I make handmade paper in the basement. I strum my autoharp. I go for a bike ride, ringing my two bells over and over. I make up cocktails and weird sandwiches and dance around the kitchen listening to Dar Williams. I call my mom while I cook and ask her how many tablespoons of butter are in a half cup or what’s her recipe for meatloaf again. I snack, probably on cheese. I look for bunnies in the yard and then fireflies. I wait for Dan to get home and we binge watch episodes of Dark Shadows and eat homemade gelato for dessert.
Who is your dream barbecue guest?
A pony.
What makes you homesick?
Certain handwriting, the smell of lamb and garlic roasting in an oven, clothespins, a glass of retsina, the words yearn and echo and still, a plastic baggie of Nantucket sand tucked in a blazer pocket twenty-five years ago, loved ones who I only see now in dreams and memories.
